A Pretty Good Year For Gold? You Bet!

2025 was a very profitable year for gold. In 2024 gold showed some positive signs of stirring with a gain of $557.10, closing the year at $2624.60. Gold was trending up from the start of 2025 but really made its move in the fall. The end result was a gain of over $1700 or almost 66%. Gold closed the year at $4317.60 with the actual high happening a little earlier at $4533.00. There is chatter that $5000 gold is very doable this year and it wouldn't surprise me to see it happen. There are also some wild figures being tossed out of gold going much, much higher than that. If gold does "go to the moon" what type of world would we be living in? Maybe we don't want to see gold prices in the stratosphere.
With gold prices well over $4000 an ounce, it's taking a pretty good chunk of change to invest in just one coin or bar. If that is a little too steep for your budget, you may want to consider fractional gold coins. Take, for instance, the 1/10 ounce American Gold Eagle. They are very popular with a total of 36,500 being produced through December of 2024. They are about the size of a dime and can be purchased for a little over $500 as of this writing (early January '26). Shop around for the best deals.
